With the new update, your adult Dragons that you’ve trained can now have babies, and you can help raise them! This guide will show you how to find Dragon's Heartroot, get an egg, and raise the baby dragons. Let’s get started!
🌿 Finding Dragon's Heartroot
There is a new plant that spawns in your worlds called Dragon's Heartroot! This plant is essential for Dragon Nesting, so make sure that you collect lots!
Heartroot can be harvested by punching it! Alternatively, shears can harvest the Dragon's Heartroot Block, which allows you to place it wherever you want as a decoration.
💕 Dragon Nesting
Once you find some Dragon's Heartroot, you’ll be able to craft Nest Carpets to lay down where you’d like the egg to be placed. Dragons need 3 Nest Blocks or 3 Nest Carpets nearby before they’ll try to lay a Dragon Egg. You can craft Blocks and Carpets using Dragon's Heartroot in a Forge.
To start Nesting Mode for your trained dragons (of the same species), you have to feed them Heartroot and provide a nest space with blocks or carpets.
Tip: The Dragon Horn can be used to gather your trained dragons
Note: Dragon's Heartroot DOES NOT WORK on Toothless the Night Fury
- A message will be sent that Toothless is uninterested if the player attempts it.
🥚 Dragon Eggs
Once the Dragon Egg spawns, it will attract enemy mobs like Skeletons and Zombies (similar to Turtle Eggs). The Dragon Egg cannot be healed or moved, so it’s best to protect it in combat or by building something around it until it hatches.
The type of egg and amount of health are shown in the action bar when a player looks at the Dragon Egg. The egg will show cracks as it progresses to hatching. Dragon Eggs will hatch faster if they are on a Nest Block or Nest Carpet.
A message will be sent to nearby players when an egg is about to hatch. When the egg hatches, experience will be dropped for the player to collect.
🐉 Dragon Babies
Once the baby is hatched, it will imprint on the closest player. That player will then be able to summon or respawn it from the Baby section of the Dragon Horn.
To help raise a Baby Dragon, make sure you address their needs in the thought bubble above their head!
The baby will grow up on its own over time, but like adult dragons, it will have needs periodically. Any need that you satisfy for it will help it grow faster. Feed the Baby Dragons ‘Baby Food’ when it’s hungry, and pet them when they want attention.
Baby Dragons are picky eaters, and will only want their favorite foods.
Baby Foods can be crafted using 3 Dragon's Heartroot and the food their parent loves:
- Baby Gronckle Food = Cobblestone
- Baby Deadly Nadder = Chicken
- Baby Hideous Zippleback = Cod
- Baby Monstrous Nightmare = Rot
- Baby Rumblehorn = Beef
You can also craft your Baby Dragons a toy for them to play with! You can pick up toys with a punch. It is a shaped recipe that requires Dragon's Heartroot, 3 White Wool, and 2 Bones.
