How to collect Chaos Emeralds

This guide will help you locate the Chaos Shrines and describe the types of encounters you will face.

There are seven Chaos Emeralds to collect individually, and you will find them in the following order: Green, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow, White, and Cyan.

You can also explore with friends in multiplayer mode to find the shrines, as each player can see their respective emerald at a shrine. However, keep in mind that only one challenge can be active at a time, so you'll need to wait for your friend's challenge to finish before you can start yours.

The Emeralds are not stored as inventory items and will not appear in your inventory after collection. Instead, they function like achievements. You can track your progress in the "Become Super" section of the onboarding book you received when you created your world, or look at a Chaos Machine in your world. If you have lost your book, you can craft a new one using 1 Ring.

How to Find Chaos Shrines

Chaos Shrines spawn in several biomes:

• Deserts
• Plains
• Meadows
• Savannahs
• Mushroom Islands
• Sparse Jungles
• Beaches
• Snow Plains
• Badlands

You will spot them by looking for Shrine blocks and a beacon of light that the Chaos Emerald emits. As you approach the Shrine, two potential scenarios can occur: an Emerald Chase or a Dr. Eggman Boss Fight.

Tip: You can collect or craft Shrine Blocks for some unique decorative building blocks!

Emerald Chase:

A Chase Challenge starts when a player approaches a Shrine, and the Chaos Emerald runs off. You need to keep up with the Chaos Emerald as it runs away. Each Chase emerald will get progressively more difficult, so you will need to transform into a member of Team Sonic to catch some of the tougher Emeralds. If you manage to keep up with the Emerald until the timer runs out, you will be able to walk up to the Emerald and collect it. If you fail to keep up with the Emerald, the Shrine will reset, and you will need to try again.

Dr. Eggman Boss Fight:

The second Chaos Shrine encounter is the Dr. Eggman boss fight. When you approach the shrine, you will see some Eggrobos hovering around and the Chaos Emerald locked in the middle.

Clear away the Eggrobos to start the boss fight.

These boss fights can be challenging! We recommend transforming into a member of Team Sonic and carrying a spare ring in your inventory to absorb any unexpected hits.

Utilize Team Sonic’s abilities to inflict damage on Eggman and use the Shrine's elements—like springs—to dodge his attacks and close in on him.

Dr. Eggman will employ a variety of attacks against you, including:

• Swoop Attack: Spikes will emerge from his ship and Dr. Eggman will try to ram into you. Dodge this attack and hit him from above.
• Missile Attack: Dr. Eggman will fire guidance missiles at you, which you can trick into hitting Dr. Eggman!
• Laser Attack: Dr. Eggman will shoot a laser from below his ship, try to stay above him to avoid the laser and deal some damage!
• Eggrobo Attack: Dr. Eggman will release more Eggrobos. You can bounce on the Eggrobo to get some more air and land an attack on Dr. Eggman.

Upon defeating Dr. Eggman, he will drop a Chaos Drive. Make sure to store the Chaos Drive in a safe place as you will need it to craft a Chaos Machine later. More on that below.

Finally, the Chaos Emerald will be unlocked from its cage, allowing you to collect it from the Shrine.

Once you have gathered all 7 Chaos Emeralds and obtained at least three Chaos Drives from your encounters with Dr. Eggman, you will be ready to create a Chaos Machine.

To build a Chaos Machine, use 1 Warp Ring, 2 Iron Blocks, 3 Glass Blocks, and 3 Chaos Drives in Tails’ Tinker Table and follow the recipe below:
